Blame: Whos Responsible?

The burning of the Bush has begun. I read a news report today stating that it is President Bush’s fault there are so many victims of Hurricane Katrina. All who believe this – please raise your hands and bow three times to the eastern God George W. Bush.

I must have missed the memo electing George W. to the post of God? What are these people thinking? Hurricane Katrina was a natural disaster, an act of nature, undeterred by man. I’m certain if President Bush had the power to stop this disaster, he would have. He doesn’t have that kind of power.

Where do we, as the American People get off, blaming someone else for not stepping in and protecting our family and friends? Who do you think the Government is? It’s you! It’s ME! It’s US!

What are you doing as an individual to help your neighbors? Have you offered to open your doors, invite a family in for dinner, and help them to have a place to sleep that is warm and dry? Have you collected even the clothing you aren’t wearing for the shipments of aid going to the Southland?

There are thousands and thousands of families, displaced by this disaster who need an opportunity to relocate and start their lives over. Have you found a way to help a family relocate? Have you offered help? Have you made a phone call? Have you reached out and invited a family to come to your home?

These are your brothers and sisters, your friends, your neighbors. These are the people who will stop by as you are broken down on the highway and help you to get back on the road. There are lives needing nurturing and reaching out for just a helping hand.

If each person across this nation made one phone call, spent one hour helping out, gathered just the clothes out of the closet that aren’t being worn, cleaned out the pantry, and invited one person from the devastated area to come home with them, the crisis would abate. Each person who has been left homeless by this disaster would find a place to be, would be comforted and feel loved. Each family would have a place to go, a home full of furniture, clothing to wear, and food to eat.

Who is responsible? I believe we are each responsible to help our neighbors, and our friends who need help.

What have you done?
